Bil from Focus Body Piercing in Iowa City had these beauties tattooed by Rev. Matt Cooper. He sure does like breakfast time:
For reasons I have long since forgotten, I decided that PANCAKES would be a great idea for a fat man’s knuckles. I guess anyone’s knuckles would do. But, after serious thought, I decided that waffles would beat pancakes up in a fist fight.
I love this one, but I have to guess that the “after serious thought” part might be an exaggeration…
This set was sent in by Phillip Kaplan in Chicago. This is what he knows about them:
This guy works at SmartBar in Chicago, near the Cubs’ stadium. He’s worked there awhile I guess, but I went there last night for the first time for tattoo night. I’m a journalism student and, strangely, this is the only tattoo night in Chicago. Weird… and newsworthy. Root Beer doesn’t drink and especially likes the frosty muggs for O’s. He is bubbley.
Don M. from Toronto, Ontario just sent theses knuckles in. They were inked by Shawn at Blood, Sweat and Shears in Toronto, which is a place where you can get a tattoo and a hair cut. Amazing. I love it. But on to the story:
“SIDE SHOW has a double meaning for me: I wanted to acknowledge in a light-hearted way that some people still see extensive visible tattoos as a bit freakish, but also to remind myself that my own tattoos are a side show… an important and visible part of me, but not the main part of me.”
UPDATE: Looks like Don got his thumbs done too, check it out:
And the continuing story:
Here are a pair of “thumbskulls” (rhyms with “numbskull”!) I had done in July. They go with the SIDE SHOW knuckles I submitted earlier and were done by the same tattooist (Shawn). I’m not sure that flaming skulls need much explanation in the tattoo world, but I got these done because I race bikes . . . when I see my flaming thumbskulls on the handlebars it reminds me to focus and go faster . . .
These double deckers were sent in by Giac Szwarc, a tattooist in Wolverhampton, U.K.:
I had been contemplating what to get on my knuckles for ages and i wanted something todo with my tattooing incorporated into it. then the night before i was talking about it to my girlfriend and she suggested these words because they’re the best way to describe me for her and my left hand contains a shorthand version of my alias. My friend Scott was supposed to do these for me the following afternoon and in return i was supposed to neaten out some lines on his. he didnt turn up and because i was so stoked for them to be done i ended up doing them myself, as can be seen on some lines.
A sweet set of knuckles from Ontario Canada. Story to follow:
My name is Tanya Paulin and I am a semi-retired body piercer, and co-owner of Studio 123 Tattoo with my husband Bob Paulin.
My knucles were done by Jay Hesse. My middle name is Jane, and when I was little, my mother used to shout “Miss Jane” so that I knew I was getting in trouble when I got to her. It is a term of endearment between the two of us, and one I thought was fitting enough to wear on my hands…
Natalie S. sends these knuckles in, with this story:
Chad Koeplinger did this tattoo for me, he’s a Michigan native and totally related to my love, as an Illinois native and Chicago resident, for the mid west. My husband and I talked a lot about ideas for mid west tattoos, he ended up with a logo from his favorite skate shop in Flint, his hometown and I decided an ear of corn on my finger would be the idea tribute. I’ve been all over, and liked a lot of places on the east coast I visited, but nothing compares to being back home where every one’s fat, the politicians are all corrupt and the football’s always great.
These knuckles were sent in by Steve in Wellington, New Zealand:
I’m a huge metal fan, have been since I was young, got introduced by older brothers record collection of Van Halen, Deep Purple etc. Moved on to Metallica, Maiden etc, then progressed to Thrash metal, Death metal, Black metal etc. Love it all, live for it. Got the idea for the tatt when I was drunk at an Unearth/Killswitch engage show. Metal for life! Tattoo done by Manu at Tattoo City, Wellington, New Zealand.

These puzzlers come to us on the hands of RayRay. Story below:
I had been waiting for the perfect knuckle tattoo for years, and when Martha Stewart was (wrongly!!) sent to prison in ’04, i was reading an article about it that gave her Federal Prisoner Number. Being a huge fan i instantly realized that a gangstyle tribute to her was perfect. My buddy actually opened up his shop in the middle of the night to do it. I still think it’s as funny as hell but i do have to explain it a lot, and i get a lot of blank stares. The color was custom mixed to match one of her paint chips from K-Mart: “Hosta Green”.
