I’ve realized the best way to explain why I got this on my knuckles is to present a simple piece of writing by Dorothy Parker which reads:

Once, when I was young and true,
Someone left me sad-
Broke my brittle heart in two;
And that is very bad.

Love is for unlucky folk,
Love is but a curse.
Once there was a heart I broke;
And that, I think, is worse.

As much as I have loved each very much, I always “trade up”. This is what you do throughout the course of life, I just end up doing it back to back. The result being many broken hearts. As soon as I win a heart, I break it. It is a line from one of my favorite songs and I felt like it should be added to my collection of “warning” tattoos. Then, when I leave the next one, I can say, “I warned you” and maybe feel a little less guilty.

i got ‘xmas past’ as my hometown in rochester, england where charles dickens lived. i always loved his books especially a christmas carol. so i decided to go for xmas past in tribute as the ghost of christmas past is one of the spirits that visits scrooge. i always wanted my knuckles done and wanted something unique.

Chad Koeplinger did this tattoo for me, he’s a Michigan native and totally related to my love, as an Illinois native and Chicago resident, for the mid west. My husband and I talked a lot about ideas for mid west tattoos, he ended up with a logo from his favorite skate shop in Flint, his hometown and I decided an ear of corn on my finger would be the idea tribute. I’ve been all over, and liked a lot of places on the east coast I visited, but nothing compares to being back home where every one’s fat, the politicians are all corrupt and the football’s always great.
