Dave Bireley won’t stop

This is it, this time I mean it! Dave? Is it intervention time? This is the 3rd time we’ve featured you on the site. I know it is a rush every time, but really there comes a time in a man’s life where he has to say, “I’ve done enough.”

Here is what he has to say this time around:

Well sir I enjoy your web site so much & the collection of such great art, ideas & stories, that I got carried away contributing to it.

So here’s my last submission.

Finger tips done today May 10, 2011 – LONGEVITY, HEALTH, LOVE, PEACE, JOY, WEALTH, CHAOS, INFINITY & if i only raise each middle finger it will indicate LOVE MONEY

All the work on my hands was done by Stuart of Transcending Flesh Tattoo located In Lancaster PA.

I look forward to seeing how Dave figures out how to cram more ink on his digits.

SAIL AWAY

My name is Michael Gaudette and I have always wanted knuckle tattoos since a young child. I struggled with what I wanted. I totally ignored an eight letter, two-word phrase I always would think about…”sail away”. The thought of sailing away somewhere unknown is such a peaceful thing to me. One day I popped into my head, why not sail away. And it was as simple as that.

Mark Jackson sends us these delightfully nerdy knuckles:

I got this 4 days ago. I choose CCIE 4736 because I have been a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert for over 10 years. My career have been so rewarding to me and along with being part of an elite group I felt this was a perfect way to express.

STR8 PAIN

Here is my picture of my knuckles.. My reasoning with this one is… In September 2009 I was hit head on from a drunk driver, since then I have been in pain every day.  So, hence  STR8 PAIN….  My husband did these for me in 2010.. Took me forever to figure out what I wanted… But I love it!

COOL HAND

Lucas sends us this set of knuckles:

The story behind my knuckles is nothing more than self expression. I’ve grown up with many nicknames, an one always stood out to me. Cool Hand Luke, an over the past two years I’ve been throwing This idea around. So I’ve finally decided to make my move, I’m an up and coming bartender in Brooklyn, an soon to be a barber. So with that, Im able to be tattooed from head to toe. There simply is no better way I can represent who I am, better than what my knuckles present. I’m not afraid of 50 eggs nor can I pass up a challenge. My knuckles represent, the concept of never giving up, an also showing off my humor, in other words. I couldn’t be happier. The end.

Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth

My name is Andrea Bailey. I’m 22 and my knuckle tattoos were the 16th piece I’ve acquired.
I Got my knuckle tattoos in Portland Oregon at a shop call SeaTramp.
I didn’t know as I was walking in that I was going to get them. But I was there with a friend and told him I’d buy him a tattoo if he got his before mine so I had time to think about it. He agreed. 40 mins later the time arrived for me to make a decision. I said “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth..”

The guy said “what?”
I said “it’s in the Bible..you know?”

So he pulled out the Bible and we found the scripture.
I then knew I wanted the symbols (eyes, teeth) when necessary.
He decided to use the same font from the Bible for the lettering.

Some people ask why it’s backwards or hard to get at first.. My usual response is “revenge is something I don’t understand.”

Funny story about my knucks: I was going through a custody proceeding and the judge didn’t really like me. I could just read it in her face and comments. Her argument was that my knuckles/the scripture were affiliations with an Asian Gang. “Bahahhaha!” <— My response! I’m neither Asian or intimidation enough to be in an Asian Gang. (I did end up losing the case anyhow..? couldn’t tell ya why.. haha)

NYC Tattoo Convention Recap

I had a great time at the New York City Tattoo Convention!

I met a ton of great people and collected over 40 sets of knuckle tattoos. I’ve already started compiling the convention book. I spent a lot of time hanging out with Marissa and Brian from the exceptional Needles and Sins tattoo blog. I also ran into Bill Cohen from the Tattoosday blog. We all got together for this photo:

NYC Tattoo Convention: tattoo bloggers
Nathan (knuckletattoos.com), Marissa (needlesandsins.com), and Bill (tattoosday.blogspot.com)

Over the course of the convention, my legs placed 3rd in the “Old School” Tattoo category, I passed out a ton of stickers, I traded Tshirts with a random guy in a bar, a tattooed cop gave me official NYPD patches, got to spend a lot of quality time with my brother and his wife, and I brought home a carry on bag worth of bagels. Pretty good for a four day trip.

If you want to see the rest of my “behind the scenes shots” of the convention and my various wandering through NYC, visit my photography site.

Thanks to everyone in NYC for your hospitality and I hope to come back next year!
